This statement comes after media misrepresentations of the CDS’s interview on Channels Television on Thursday, 20 August 2025, which sparked public debate about personal security in Nigeria.
In a press release signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence
Information, DHQ emphasized that General Musa’s message was intended to promote
personal resilience, situational awareness, and lawful preparedness. The skills
highlighted—such as swimming, driving, boxing, taekwondo, and judo—were likened
to widely accepted life skills rather than calls for the illegal carrying of
firearms.
The DHQ stressed that the Nigerian
Armed Forces and other security agencies continue to achieve significant
successes in combating insecurity nationwide. These gains reflect the
government’s commitment to citizen safety and the maintenance of peace and
stability.
Promoting security awareness at all
levels is essential, DHQ noted. Basic life skills, including unarmed
self-defense, enhance individual preparedness and contribute to broader
national security. The public was urged to rely on verified sources and
original statements to avoid the spread of misleading information.
