🇳🇬 President Tinubu Highlights Indigenous Defence Manufacturing at NDC Course 33 Graduation

 


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasized the importance of strengthening indigenous military manufacturing as a key driver for Nigeria’s security and development during the graduation ceremony of National Defence College (NDC) Course 33.

The ceremony, held on 22 August 2025 in Abuja, also celebrated the completion of the 11-month Strategic Leadership Course by Nigerian and international participants. The event featured contributions from HM Matawalle, Rear Admiral James Okosun, and other defence and government officials.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu applauded NDC’s culture of research excellence, highlighting the College’s Presidential Treaties on Harnessing Indigenous Manufacturing for Enhanced National Security and Development: Strategic Options for Nigeria by 2040. He directed relevant stakeholders to study the recommendations, describing indigenous manufacturing as indispensable to national security and development.





The President also praised the theme for Course 33, “Strengthening Institutions for National Security and Development in Nigeria,” stressing that resilient institutions form the foundation of successful societies. He highlighted his administration’s prioritization of strong institutions to uphold the rule of law, safeguard citizens’ rights, ensure accountability, and deliver essential services.

President Tinubu further noted Nigeria’s economic progress under his leadership, citing a 48% year-on-year growth in the stock market as evidence of renewed investor confidence, while acknowledging ongoing challenges such as inflation and food insecurity. He restated the commitment to completing construction at the permanent site of NDC in Piwoyi.




HM Matawalle, Special Guest of Honour, congratulated the graduands and commended NDC for equipping participants with knowledge and leadership skills essential for addressing national and regional security challenges. He praised international participants for their contributions and underscored the College’s role in shaping future defence and security leaders.

Rear Admiral James Okosun, Commandant of NDC, welcomed the President and highlighted the administration’s support for the College. He expressed confidence in the graduands’ ability to tackle pressing security challenges, including banditry and oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

Course 33 graduands were drawn from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and other institutions, including participants from friendly nations. The event concluded with awards, networking, and recognition of academic and leadership excellence.
