Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolences at the funeral of the Emir of Zuru, retired Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami, describing him as a revered leader whose legacy of service will be remembered by generations.

Representing the President at the burial in Zuru, Kebbi State, the Vice President said Nigeria had lost a royal father who embodied humility, generosity, and national service.
He emphasized
the critical role traditional institutions continue to play in sustaining peace
across Nigeria and prayed for sustained unity across the country.
“I am here at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to personally convey his deepest condolences to the Governor of Kebbi State, the immediate family of the deceased, the entire people of Zuru, and all Nigerians over this great loss. His legacies will always be remembered because he used his entire life in serving the nation and humanity. May God grant him Aljannatul Firdausi,” Shettima said.
Responding
on behalf of the family, the Emir’s eldest son, Sadiq Sani Sami, thanked the
President for standing with the people of Zuru in their time of grief, noting
that his late father instilled humility, hard work, and generosity in his
children and community.
The Emir,
who passed on 16 August 2025 in London after a protracted illness, was later
interred in his private garden in Zuru according to Islamic rites and his
personal wishes.
Military
personnel paid their final respects in line with tradition, honouring the late
Emir’s distinguished career as a retired Major General.
Dignitaries at the funeral included Kebbi State Governor Nasiru Idris, the Sultan of Sokoto His Eminence Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, the 14th Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Danbazau, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs Dr Yusuf Sununu, APC National Organising Secretary Suleiman Argungu, and other traditional rulers.
