The online report also made unfounded references to an earlier DHQ statement on the arrest of sixteen officers currently under investigation for professional misconduct.

According to a statement issued by the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the claim is entirely false, malicious, and intended to create unnecessary tension and distrust among the public. He clarified that the decision to cancel the anniversary parade was taken to enable the President attend a strategic bilateral meeting outside the country and for the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to sustain operational momentum in the fight against terrorism, insurgency and banditry.

The DHQ wishes to reassure Nigerians that the ongoing investigation involving the sixteen officers is a routine internal process aimed at ensuring discipline and professionalism within the ranks,” the statement noted, stressing that an investigative panel has already been constituted and its findings will be made public at the appropriate time.

The DHQ further called on peace-loving Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies, reaffirming that the Federal Government, the legislature, and the judiciary remain united in advancing the nation’s safety, development, and wellbeing. “Democracy is forever,” the statement emphasized.

Reiterating its constitutional loyalty, the Armed Forces of Nigeria urged the public to disregard the fake report and remain vigilant against purveyors of misinformation. The military also pledged continued support to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
