That strategic direction was reaffirmed at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, where the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, received the Governing Council and Management Team of the university, using the engagement to outline the Army's commitment to building a future-ready force anchored on education, innovation and knowledge-driven military professionalism.

The meeting underscored the growing recognition within the Nigerian Army that future security challenges will increasingly require personnel equipped not only with operational experience but also with advanced competencies in cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, defence research and strategic analysis. Positioning military education within this broader capability framework reflects the Army's long-term investment in intellectual readiness alongside combat effectiveness.

Describing the Nigerian Army University Biu as a strategic national asset, Lieutenant General Shaibu highlighted the institution's contribution to Nigeria's defence architecture through specialised academic programmes in cybersecurity, cyber warfare, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. He also commended the university's initiative to establish a Centre for Military Performance Management, noting that the proposed centre would strengthen defence research, institutional performance evaluation and evidence-based strategic decision-making across the service.

Beyond reaffirming policy direction, the COAS announced concrete measures aimed at enhancing the university's operational capacity. He approved an assessment for additional accommodation for military faculty and staff while disclosing plans to leverage the Nigerian Army's partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for the construction of a permanent Senate Building. He also assured the university of the Army's full support towards the accreditation of its academic programmes, reinforcing institutional development as a key component of the service's modernisation agenda.

The investments align with Lieutenant General Shaibu's broader leadership philosophy, which places personnel development, professional military education and institutional capacity building at the centre of the Army's operational effectiveness. The approach recognises that technological advancement and evolving security threats require continuous investment in both infrastructure and human capital to sustain military readiness.

Earlier, the Chancellor of the Nigerian Army University Biu, His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), Orodje I of Okpe Kingdom, acknowledged the Army's sustained commitment to the institution's growth and development. He also expressed appreciation for the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award conferred on him during the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2026 and announced the university's readiness to host its combined graduation ceremony in October 2026.

As militaries worldwide continue to adapt to increasingly technology-driven security environments, the Nigerian Army's continued investment in specialised military education reflects a broader institutional shift towards developing a force where intellectual capacity, research excellence and technological innovation complement operational capability in safeguarding national security.
